Wedding Day Interview: Danni & Chris – Essendon Country Club Wedding

Danni and Chris were married on the 23rd of May in a gorgeous ceremony at Essendon Country Club. They now have a newborn son and as they approach their first wedding anniversary, I caught up with Danni who shares details on their wedding, serving as perfect inspiration for all you brides and grooms-to-be. In her wedding day interview, here’s what she had to say…

Danni, tell us about you and Chris

It’s a simple story of meeting through a friend in a pub. We were friends for about a year before we went out on a date. We hit it off straight away.

How did Chris propose?

Chris popped the question on Christmas morning. He wrapped up a Kurt Geiger shoe box, so I thought I was getting shoes. To my delight when I opened the box, it contained a ring box. We announced our engagement to our friends and family that day.

Did you have a theme for your day?

Not a theme as such but we choose a colour scheme and ran with it. We combined teal with bright pink and incorporated splashes of yellow, such as my bouquet of sunflowers to ensure it was a colourful affair. We carried this throughout all the finishing touches.

Tell us about the search to find your dream dress

Initially, I wanted a Kate Middletown style lace gown. I tried on several and began to get frustrated as I felt frumpy in them. Finally, I was persuaded to try on a ballgown. I was hesitant at first but as soon as I tried it on, I loved it! It was the complete opposite to what I thought I wanted.

How did you choose your bridesmaid dresses?

On a boozy afternoon on Oxford Street, we found the girls’ dresses in Monsoon. I wanted to find something that flattered all the girls and the 1950’s silhouette of these dresses did just that. They looked gorgeous!

What did you enjoy most about wedding planning?

I loved adding all the personal touches. Our table names were derived from significant times in our lives. We also scattered the tables with confetti containing song lyrics of the song that was number one at that time. My friend is in an Irish band and they played at our reception. As my dad sadly passed away from cancer our wedding favours were pins for Cancer Research, a fitting tribute. I loved incorporating a more personal touch into our day.

What 3 tips would you give anyone planning their wedding?

  1. Don’t get too stressed out and enjoy it as much as possible.
  2. You will always spend more than you budget.
  3. Try to slow down and enjoy a minute with your other half to take it all in.

How did you decide on Marc as your wedding photographer?

We met Marc at a wedding fair, and what we were drawn to was the fact that he wasn’t pushy at all. We talked through what we wanted with no obligation. At our engagement shoot we really felt that he listened to what we wanted, adapting his approach based on what we liked. This was definitely reflected in the final outcome.
